Far above all is our Savior enthroned

C117 E128 K117 LSM28 R95 S67 T128
1
Far above all is our Savior enthroned;
Crown'd is the Lamb who by sinners is owned,
Living forever to list to our call,
God hath exalted Him far above all.

Far above all! Far above all!
Jesus the crucified far above all!
High as His members upon Him we call,
  God hath exalted Him far above all!
2
When the fierce tempest, uplifting its waves,
Seeks to engulf us, we cry and He saves;
Looking to Jesus, upheld by His hand,
Tread we the billows as safe as on land.
3
High are the cities that dare our assault,
Strong are the barriers that call us to halt;
March we on fearless, and down they must fall,
Vanquish'd by faith in Him far above all.
4
His is the kingdom from pole unto pole,
Far above all while the ages shall roll,
With Him the victors, who follow'd His call,
Share in His royalty far above all.

k. His Being the First and the Last

In Revelation 1:17 the Lord Jesus says, “I am the First and the Last. ” Christ is not only the First and the Last but also the Beginning and the End. He is the First, the One at the beginning, and the Last, the One at the end. This assures us that, having started the church life, He will surely accomplish it. He will never leave His work unfinished. All the local churches must believe that the Lord Jesus is the beginning and the ending. He will accomplish what He has begun in His recovery.

l. His Being the Living One,

and His Becoming Dead and Living

Forever and Ever

In Revelation 1:18 we see that the Lord is “the living One, ” the One who “became dead” and who is “living forever and ever. ” The Lord suffered death and lived again. He entered into death, but death could not hold Him (Acts 2:24), because He is the resurrection (John 11:25). Christ died, but in resurrection He will live forever. Resurrection is the lengthening of the Lord’s days. He will exist forever and ever in His resurrection. Jesus Christ today is the living One, the One who is in resurrection. For Christ to dispense life, He must be the living One since a dead person can never dispense life to others.

… His living forever is His testimony, for the testimony of Jesus is always related to the matter of being living. If a local church is not living, it will not have the testimony of Jesus. The more living we are, the more we are the testimony of the living Jesus.

12. The Living One

In the church Christ is also the living One. In Revelation 1:18 the Lord says that He is the living One, that He became dead, and that He is now living forever and ever. The Christ who walks in the midst of the churches, who is the Head of the churches and to whom the churches belong, is the living One full of life. In the church we have a living Christ who has overcome death. Our Christ, who is the resurrected Christ, is living in us and among us. Therefore, all the churches should be as living as Christ, full of life and overcoming death.

One day we will sing this hymn like this:

High are the cities that dared our assault,

Strong are the barriers that called us to halt;

March we on fearless, and down they must fall,

Vanquished by faith, IN HIM, far above all!

Regarding Ernest's comment, I remember singing the refrain "low at His footstool, adoring, we fall, God hath exalted, Him, far above all."

Rev 17:14 These will make war with the Lamb and He will overcome them for He is Lord of Lords and King of Kings, and they who are with Him, the called and chosen and faithful, will also overcome them. He IS Lord above all. Amen.
