Free from the law—oh, happy condition

1
Free from the law—oh, happy condition!
Jesus hath bled, and there is remission;
Cursed by the law and bruised by the fall,
Christ hath redeemed us once for all.
  Once for all—oh, sinner, receive it;
Once for all—oh, doubter, believe it;
Cling to the cross, the burden will fall,
  Christ hath redeemed us once for all.
2
There on the cross your burden upbearing,
Thorns on His brow your Savior is wearing;
Never again your sin need appall,
You have been pardoned once for all.
3
Now we are free—there's no condemnation;
Jesus provides a perfect salvation:
"Come unto Me," oh, hear His sweet call,
Come, and He saves us once for all.
4
Children of God—oh, glorious calling,
Surely His grace will keep us from falling;
Passing from death to life at His call,
Blessed salvation once for all.

Free from the law, oh, blessed condition

I can sin all I want and still have remission!

Antinomianism I claim

His law I do spurn without any blame

Once For All!

Christ hath redeemed us Once For All

You have been pardoned Once For All

Come and he saves us Once For All

Blessed salvation Once For All

If you believe it, sing it! You are eternally secure in Christ.

~ Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. ~

Preparing a short sermon for our midweek service on the theme "What does it mean to be free?"

This old hymn came to mind. I have not sung it for at least 30 years, but the truth of it's verses remains the same.

Jesus tells us:

"You shall know the truth and the truth will make you fre!"

Reading through Galatians. “Free from the law, oh happy condition! ” Came to mind. Like so many others have commented, these hymns come to mind with their rich theology and reinforce the truths of God’s Word. “Singing to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs... ” Thankful that our faith puts music in our hearts!

What a great old hymn I had never heard before. It was mentioned in a free correspondence course from Dallas Seminary (Hebrews). Bliss died in a train accident in the county where I was born, Ashtabula, OH. There is an obelisk there in honor of him and the other victims. Adventures in Odyssey has a short radio drama about this event. There is also a Bliss museum in PA that I would like to see.

Once for all, by The Greatest of All!

Listening to a preacher on television spending much time making the distinction between moral and ceremonial laws. The point is made that Christ came to fulfill the ceremonial laws and I wondered why should such distinction be necessary when salvation means such a glorious transformation, giving us the privilege of living in love which supercedes all laws, including moral. That's when I remember this 'treasure' I haven't heard in half a century. What a blessing to be able to make this rediscovery - thank You Lord!

Reading the book by Philip Yancey, "What's So Amazing About Grace" and this song came to mind. Couldn't recall all the words so I looked it up. Such a telling song! So sad we don't hear these hymns much anymore.

I was rereading Romans 8 and this old hymn came racing back; I did remember most of the words but I was refreshed in seeing them all. Thank You Jesus for making this possible.

Praise the Lord! Sin shall not nave dominion over us for we are not under law but under grace. As I was praying through the verses in Daily Light I was reminded of this wonderful hymn. I appreciate this website so much where I can find a hymn that the Lord brings to my attention. Thank you!
