About Numbered Notation

Numbered Notation (also called Jianpu, 简谱) writes each melody note as a number from 1 to 7 instead of a note on a staff. The number shows the note's position in the song's scale -- not its exact pitch -- so the same tune looks identical no matter what key it's sung in.

Within one octave, the numbers 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 correspond to the familiar do re mi fa sol la ti. A dot above a number raises it an octave higher; a dot below lowers it an octave lower -- no dot means the middle, as-written octave.

A plain number lasts one beat. A dash (-) right after a number holds that same note for one more beat. A line underneath a number shortens it instead -- one line is half a beat, two lines a quarter of a beat. A 0 is a rest: silence for one beat.

The label at the top of the sheet, like "1=C" or "1=Ab", shows which pitch scale degree 1 ("do") is tuned to. A song in a minor key is labeled "6=X" instead -- scale degree 6 ("la") is the true tonic. Chord names printed above the notes (like "C" or "G7") always use their familiar letter names, never numbers.

For example, under a "1=C" heading, the numbers 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 sound as C D E F G A B. Under a "1=G" heading, those very same numbers sound as G A B C D E F# instead -- same shape, different key.

Let us work together with the Lord through prayer

Prayer Expressing the Lord

New Songs390
1
Let us work together with the Lord through prayer,
Praying every time and everywhere.
He will not accomplish His will on His own;
Seek Him ‘till His purpose is made known.

Make us those who’re one with You in prayer,
Echoing the things for which You care.
Lord, do make us one so that Your heart’s desire we share;
In this age, Lord gain Your men of prayer.
2
Let us open to the Lord Himself through prayer,
Breathe Him deeply as the living air.
Gain the life supply by praying into Him,
’Til our being’s filled up to the brim.
3
Let us fellowship with God in spir’t through prayer;
There is nothing else that can compare.
Lord, we realize there’s nothing we can do,
But all things are possible through You.
4
Let us move together with the Lord through prayer;
For His move on earth we must prepare.
Lord do grow in us ’til we’re matured in life,
As Your army fully qualified.
5
Let us fight together with the Lord through prayer;
Over death, Christ’s vict’ry we declare.
One with the ascended Christ; we soar in prayer,
Fight as one for God’s move everywhere.

Let us open to the Lord Himself through prayer, breathe Him deeply as the air. (O Lord Jesus!) Gain the life supply (as the oil of exalting joy) by praying to Him, until our being's filled up to the brim. Make us those who're one with You in prayer, echo the things for which You care. Lord, do make us one so that Your heart's desire we share; in this age, gain Your men of prayer. ... Thank You Lord Jesus! Praise You O Lord! Amen.

I love this arrangement, the lyrics and music really go together. May these words become our daily reality. Cause us to realize that when the church prays, tracks are laid for God's move throughout the earth. O Lord how you need us to pray to build up the Body of Christ, to end this age and to bring in the kingdom! Amen.
