1
O God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Our shelter from the stormy blast,
And our eternal home.
Our hope for years to come,
Our shelter from the stormy blast,
And our eternal home.
2
Under the shadow of Thy throne
Thy saints have dwelt secure;
Sufficient is Thine arm alone,
And our defence is sure.
Thy saints have dwelt secure;
Sufficient is Thine arm alone,
And our defence is sure.
3
Before the hills in order stood,
Or earth received her frame,
From everlasting Thou art God,
To endless years the same.
Or earth received her frame,
From everlasting Thou art God,
To endless years the same.
4
A thousand ages in Thy sight
Are like an evening gone;
Short as the watch that ends the night
Before the rising sun.
Are like an evening gone;
Short as the watch that ends the night
Before the rising sun.
5
Time, like an ever-rolling stream,
Bears all its sons away;
They fly forgotten, as a dream
Dies at the opening day.
Bears all its sons away;
They fly forgotten, as a dream
Dies at the opening day.
6
O God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Be Thou our guard while life shall last,
And our eternal home.
Our hope for years to come,
Be Thou our guard while life shall last,
And our eternal home.

I woke up this morning at 5 am with thoughts in my mind, counting my failures, disappointments, and also remembering that I have a God who is my father that sees all my thoughts and is willing to hold my hands and embrace me like the prodigal son’s father, then came this song in my heart and I reached out to my phone and searched for the lyrics.
Bless be the God, the father of my savior Jesus Christ who is my help yesterday and my hope for years to come. Amen
happy to have passed this hymn to two more generations after & across cultures too

Oh God, be our help in this dark hour as we mourn the death of Charlie Kirk and navigate these evil days with boldness and grace.

Today being Monday the 4th of August 2025, only the Almighty God knows why I woke up singing this song by 4am. It used to be a favorite song of both my late father and secondary school principal in St Augustine’s Grammar School, Nkwerre now in Imo State of Nigeria. May God correct my faulty steps and guide my future steps.

I was almost overwhelmed with family issues in my heart this morning while at the office and then from nowhere, the tune of this song and the lyrics of the first line of the first stanza. It was at that point I knew that I was not alone. Praise God for always coming through for me and always reminding me that He is always with me and ready to help. I'm just grateful to God that l was able to searched and found the full lyrics.

I was so blessed this morning as we sang this hymn during church service this morning. Each verse came with it's message, glory to Almighty God. Hallelujah.

I was on my way to school when this hymn dropped in my mind, but I knew only the first verse. I searched for the lyrics immediately I got into the bus. Very refreshing
