My song is love unknown
My song is love unknown

My song is love unknown, My Savior’s love to me; Love to the loveless shown, That they might lovely be. O who am I, That for my sake My Lord should take Frail flesh, and die? |

He came from His blest throne Salvation to bestow; But men made strange, and none The longed-for Christ would know: But oh, my Friend, My Friend indeed, Who at my need His life did spend. |

|
Sometimes they strew His way, And His sweet praises sing; Resounding all the day Hosannas to their King: Then “Crucify!” Is all their breath, And for His death They thirst and cry. |

|
They rise and needs will have My dear Lord made away; A murderer they save, The Prince of life they slay. Yet cheerful He To suffering goes, That He His foes From thence might free. |
5
|
In life, no house, no home My Lord on earth might have; In death, no friendly tomb, But what a stranger gave. What may I say? Heav’n was His home; But mine the tomb Wherein He lay. |

Here might I stay and sing, No story so divine; Never was love, dear King, Never was grief like Thine. This is my Friend, In whose sweet praise I all my days Could gladly spend. |

Well loved hymn, so truly conveys the suffering of my Saviour for me and for all mankind. Never missed to use it for Palm Sunday and Good Friday Services for long time now in my ministry. The Lord be eternally praised.

Poignant, sad, beautiful and so, so true. He is my best friend and I love Him very much and so grateful for His love for me.

I heard the lovely Lesley Garrett sing this on a BBC "Songs of Praise" broadcast a few years ago. Beautiful! I love the words and the Savior who inspired them.

One of my favourites since I first found it in "Hymns of Faith" Scripture Union, UK. If you like this one, look for "Thou wast rich beyond all splendour" (in same book). Words beautiful and full of meaning; don't be put off by old language forms in first line. Music fits, with a more complex harmony. 9 8. 9 8. 9 8

Love this song.

I literally melted in appreciation for the Lord who came from His blessed throne to give me salvation and bore the punishment I should have had, setting me free. This hymn was inspired for my remembrance of the many benefits the Lord bestowed on me.

"My song is love unknown,
My Savior’s love to me;
Love to the loveless shown,
That they might lovely be." The most mysterious, rich, sweet and tender experience He has given us, that He is making us Him in life and nature - that they might lovely be.

This is my friend, in whose sweet praise I all my days could gladly spend. Wonderful God.

I heard this hymn in church today after many years, it's my mum's lovely easter hymn. I sought it out and I'm glad to hear it and see the whole lyrics on this site. Jesus is such a wonderful friend!
