About Numbered Notation

Numbered Notation (also called Jianpu, 简谱) writes each melody note as a number from 1 to 7 instead of a note on a staff. The number shows the note's position in the song's scale -- not its exact pitch -- so the same tune looks identical no matter what key it's sung in.

Within one octave, the numbers 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 correspond to the familiar do re mi fa sol la ti. A dot above a number raises it an octave higher; a dot below lowers it an octave lower -- no dot means the middle, as-written octave.

A plain number lasts one beat. A dash (-) right after a number holds that same note for one more beat. A line underneath a number shortens it instead -- one line is half a beat, two lines a quarter of a beat. A 0 is a rest: silence for one beat.

The label at the top of the sheet, like "1=C" or "1=Ab", shows which pitch scale degree 1 ("do") is tuned to. A song in a minor key is labeled "6=X" instead -- scale degree 6 ("la") is the true tonic. Chord names printed above the notes (like "C" or "G7") always use their familiar letter names, never numbers.

For example, under a "1=C" heading, the numbers 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 sound as C D E F G A B. Under a "1=G" heading, those very same numbers sound as G A B C D E F# instead -- same shape, different key.

Just to be in You

Experience of Christ Abiding in Him

Long Beach Songbook23
1
Just to be in You as You’re in me.
Just abide in You, Lord, constantly.
Here I’m one with You, as You’re with me.
Here we’re joined as one, Lord, mutually.

God’s dispensing, His economy,
In His Trinity,
He’s transfusing, and He’s mingling
All He is to me.
2
I am just a branch, and You’re the vine.
As I dwell in You, everything is fine.
Here I’d like to be, Lord, all the time.
Here I’m Yours, dear Lord, and You are mine.
3
I’m a branch that’s been, Lord, grafted in.
I’m supplied in You in this life union.
Here Your riches, Lord, in this sweet life flow.
As I dwell in You, I will surely grow.
4
As I dwell in You, and You in me,
Here I’m joined to You, Lord, practically.
As I stay with You, as You’re with me,
We will mingle, Lord, subjectively.
5
As I’m loving You and enjoying You, Lord,
You become in me the rhema word.
Here I’ll pray in You as You pray in me.
You’ll bear fruit in me, Lord, abundantly.
6
As I dwell in You, Lord You’re flowing through.
Lord, You’re filling me, overflowing too.
Here we all are one and expressing You.
Here our joy is full as we dwell in You.

The lyrics are so rich and wonderful! Thank you Lord for being a present and practical Christ whom we can experience all the time. We want to enjoy You in the way of abiding in You!

"We believers who have been born of God have experienced a divine birth. This divine birth mingles the divine Spirit and our human spirit into one. This spirit becomes the factor of our genuine worship of God, who is Spirit. This factor within us loves and enjoys the instant, practical, and present word spoken by the Lord, and it causes us to love the Lord. As a result, God the Father and God the Son have come to make an abode with us, and They are abiding in us and we in Them. Today we must become sensitive to the Lord's abiding so that when we utter a word, express an attitude, or have an intention that is not of the Lord, which causes the abiding to stop, we can immediately pray, "Lord, forgive me and cleanse me; I do not wish to stop abiding in You. I want to remain in the vine." This is the way for us to abide, and it is related to praying unceasingly (1 Thes 5:17)... Our prayer is our spontaneous trust in the Lord. If we practice abiding in the Lord by praying unceasingly, the Lord will gain a group of people who are one with Him practically in the mingled spirit."

Excerpt from CWWL 1982, volume 2, "The Fulfillment of the Tabernacle and the Offerings in the Writings of John" (Chapter 19)

As I dwell in You, and You in me,
Here I’m joined to You, Lord, practically.
As I stay with You, as You’re with me,
We will mingle, Lord, subjectively.

Our dwelling in the Lord and His dwelling in us, our being joined to Him, is a fact. It is practical. It is a fact not theory or an idea. As we stay with Him throughout our day this fact becomes our subjective experience, our reality. O Lord may we stay with You and allow you to make home in us in every way.
