The deep burden and the high thought of this hymn matches the thought, the pressing need for urgent, persistent, zealous spiritual warfare in the Body of Christ. The view this hymn gives us an absolute impetus to progress, to go on, to continue with all the saints in uncompromised spiritual warfare in and as the one Body of Christ. This hymn places aside absolutely the individualistic standpoint of spiritual warfare against the devil. In effect to war is to reign, because the more we war through Christ, the more we gain as our spoil (when formerly we were under the usurping hand of the devil through the flesh) the fuller enjoyment of Christ through whom we reign in life (Rom. 5:17) unto the absolute reward in His kingdom in that day where we fully reign with Him.
