Faith of our fathers, living still
In spite of dungeon, fire and sword,
O how our hearts beat high with joy
Whene’er we hear that glorious word!
Faith of our fathers! holy faith!
We will be true to thee till death!
In spite of dungeon, fire and sword,
O how our hearts beat high with joy
Whene’er we hear that glorious word!
Faith of our fathers! holy faith!
We will be true to thee till death!

Our fathers, chained in prisons dark,
Were still in heart and conscience free;
And blest would be their children’s fate,
If they, like them should die for thee:
Faith of our fathers! holy faith!
We will be true to thee till death!
Were still in heart and conscience free;
And blest would be their children’s fate,
If they, like them should die for thee:
Faith of our fathers! holy faith!
We will be true to thee till death!
3
Faith of our fathers, we will strive
To win all nations unto thee;
And through the truth that comes from God
Mankind shall then indeed be free.
Faith of our fathers! holy faith!
We will be true to thee till death!
To win all nations unto thee;
And through the truth that comes from God
Mankind shall then indeed be free.
Faith of our fathers! holy faith!
We will be true to thee till death!

Faith of our fathers, we will love
Both friend and foe in all our strife,
And preach thee, too, as love knows how
By kindly words and virtuous life.
Faith of our fathers! holy faith!
We will be true to thee till death!
Both friend and foe in all our strife,
And preach thee, too, as love knows how
By kindly words and virtuous life.
Faith of our fathers! holy faith!
We will be true to thee till death!

This hymn reminds me everyday the labours of our forefathers in faith just to retain the gospel and also to bring it down to us in this part of the world.
And I promise that the gospel will not die in my own generation.

I recently read Faith of Our Fathers by Stauffer, The novel Martys of the Catacombs, Evidence Not Seen by Darlene Rose a missionary married a few months was separated from her husband both placed in Labor camps in inhumane treatment yet through the absolute worse, her torturing commander of the camp was miraculously spared his life and life sentence from war crimes and served Christ as to her witness.
These books took me to a different understanding then when I sang these songs as a child.
I followed real people to the burning stakes, the arenas with animals and the sword that removed their head from their bodies where their heart lies.
As I write this I see the need to humbly ask the Lord to help separate my “head” from my “heart” to quicker follow , and to quicker lay my life down for the sake of the brethren, the sheep and the future souls.

This song gives me the prove that faith should be the first priority of every Christian.

This hymn touches my heart, it speaks of our earthly fathers, in the name of our heavenly Father and declares that we all will be true to Thee till death! Amen!!!

This hymn was on my heart this morning as I woke. Not only am I blessed by meditating on the lyrics, but my heart is really blessed by reading the comments of my brothers and sisters in the Lord all over the world. Despite differences of nationality, race, and denomination, we are all part of that cloud of witnesses. I praise God for each and every one of you

This song is evergreen, with a strong potential to ignite the fire of true faith. I pray to leave behind this kind of faith for the generations coming after me.
This song would not leave my mind this morning, so I looked up the words... and they blessed me. And even more so when I saw how many people have had the same experience. Thank You Holy Spirit!!!

This hymn always sends a message t my very person, I just reflect on every line and every word used.
It reflects on how very lazy many of have become, just bearing the title 'Christian'. A title that wasn't easily acquired. The Apostles lived nd died, protecting it, the most unimaginable way you could think of. But how do we treat it today? It will really hurt them to see how "Christians" live their lives today.
May God forgive us and grant us grace to do HIS will always.

Thanks to God for the writer of this hymn. It is a great blessing. It causes tears to well up in my eyes as it calls us to rededicate our lives to the faith our fathers of faith lived, preached and died for. It reminds us that the Christian faith we have today did not come on a platter of sweet comfort, but through sweat and swords as many of those who propagated the Word of God were persecuted and slaughtered. With this understanding, we must like the Apostles of old yield our lives to "contend earnestly for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints" (Jude 3). In our modern world of breath taking technology, many no longer see it necessary to maintain the pure and unsullied message of God's word forgetting that the truth of God's word doesn't change, but must be preached, believed and practiced as it is. To us the words of the hymns calls to change and follow the faith of our fathers on the narrow path which leads to Heaven.
