I cannot tell why He, whom angels worship

1
I cannot tell why He, whom angels worship,
Should set His love upon the sons of men,
Or why, as Shepherd, He should seek the wand’rers,
To bring them back, they know not how or when.
But this I know, that He was born of Mary,
When Bethl’hem’s manger was His only home,
And that He lived at Nazareth and labored,
And so the Savior, Savior of the world, is come.
2
I cannot tell how silently He suffered,
As with His peace He graced this place of tears,
Or how His heart upon the Cross was broken,
The crown of pain to three and thirty years.
But this I know, He heals the broken-hearted,
And stays our sin, and calms our lurking fear,
And lifts the burden from the heavy laden,
For yet the Savior, Savior of the world, is here.
3
I cannot tell how He will win the nations,
How He will claim His earthly heritage,
How satisfy the needs and aspirations
Of east and west, of sinner and of sage.
But this I know, all flesh shall see His glory,
And He shall reap the harvest He has sown,
And some glad day His sun shall shine in splendor
When He the Savior, Savior of the world, is known.
4
I cannot tell how all the lands shall worship,
When, at His bidding, every storm is stilled,
Or who can say how great the jubilation
When all the hearts of men with love are filled.
But this I know, the skies will thrill with rapture,
And myriad, myriad human voices sing,
And earth to heaven, and heaven to earth, will answer:
At last the Savior, Savior of the world, is King.

I remember singing this song when I was young and I instantly fell in love with it and at a young at it made me emotional and comforted at the same time.

Its one song i’ve never forgotten and each time I sing it, I still get emotional even at my big age.

Thank you Lord for your love.

Our God reigns.

He works in mysterious ways His purposes to fulfil.

I read the following verses this morning:

“In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will, in order that we, who were the first to hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory. ”

Ephesians 1:11-12

Hallelujah, what a Saviour!

His steadfast love and patience with us, sinners, is truly amazing, all glory to His name.

He opens the eyes of the blind and comforts the broken-hearted.

Most amazing of all is that He loves ME!!!!

His kingdom come, His will be done!

When I was young I thought I knew all (well, most of) the answers to the difficult questions of life. As I get older I realise that maybe some of them are not real answers at all. This hymn is the one I return to time and again. "I cannot tell.... but this I know!"

In Romans 8, Paul tells us that if anyone thinks they know all there is about God that it actually proves that they don't...."but if we live God we are known by him". It is enough: and more than enough.

As I sang this song this morning, I noticed how the words fit in with Matthew 10:

“Or why, as Shepherd, He should seek the wand’rers,

To bring them back, ” ( v6 go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel),

and Matthew 11:

“And lifts the burden from the heavy laden” (v28 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. )

During the pandemic I have been playing a wooden folk flute, a new-to-me instrument, and found myself playing a fragment of this tune, remembering only a few words... "For this I know.... the savior, savior of the world is come." So I searched online and found this, and love reading these comments to see how many other people found themselves with this song in their hearts. It is perfect for this moment for me.

In the middle of a pandemic lockdown, I have been doing a little research... Just tonight searched online for this hymn after finding an old book and reading in it the story of how the author (Dr. William Young Fullerton) became a Christian on 20th July 1870, aged just 13. He was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland in 1857. Beautiful hymn!

I thank God for this. Woke up this morning singing it. And when I had found the lyrics sang through with tears in my eyes. Thank you God for such an inspiration and thank you author for allowing God to use you to bless me.
