Am I a soldier of the Cross

1
Am I a soldier of the Cross—
  A follower of the Lamb?
And shall I fear to own His cause,
Or blush to speak His name?
In the name, the precious name,
Of Him who died for me,
Through grace I’ll win the promised crown,
    Whate’er my cross may be.
2
Must I be carried to the skies
  On flowery beds of ease,
While others fought to win the prize
  And sailed through bloody seas?
3
Are there no foes for me to face?
Must I not stem the flood?
Is this vile world a friend to grace,
To help me on to God?
4
Since I must fight if I would reign,
  Increase my courage, Lord!
I’ll bear the toil, endure the pain,
  Supported by Thy Word.

The words of this hymn and the comments that follow from soldiers of the Cross around the world are true encouragement to me. Bless you, all who follow Jesus without fear. We need each other in this battle for truth.

I also love this song. I have heard it quoted many times by God's Prophet, Bro. William Branham. What sweet and encouraging words. Increase our Faith and Courage Lord! Certainly, we as Soldiers of the Cross, keep pressing the battle... Almost Home

Our Lord used one, or many a Christian soldier, when He first rescued every Christian from their darkness of soul and mind. This great and enduring hymn speaks of the Holy Spirit commissioning those same rescued souls to follow Him into the battle that brings a glorious and eternal grace to the next would-be Christian. Maranatha.

Woke-up this morning with this song on my heart. Witnessing the intense spiritual warfare that is going on and those that proclaim they are Christians are standing by, actually laying down instead of fighting. I hadn't sung this song in a long time, it was one of the foundation songs when I was growing up. Yet the words ring true. As believers and followers of Christ we are the last hope for a nation that is rapidly turning away from God!

"Must I be carried to the skies On flowery beds of ease, While others fought to win the prize And sailed through bloody seas?

"Since I must fight if I would reign, Increase my courage, Lord!" I first heard the above words of this hymn quoted by the late renowned Evangelist Dr. CD Brooks during an evangelistic campaign when he preached on the subject of the Dark Ages. I'll never ever forget it. God help us to practice the true faith once delivered to the saints.

Thank God for the lyrics of this hymn that remind us of what Paul said in his valedictory (2 Timothy 4:7) that this Christian journey is a fight. And we ought not expect that the world that is influenced by Christ's enemy is going to make it easy for us.

Great inspirational and we fight the attempted shut down of Churches with COVID 2020 and riots. Lord bless thee and keep thee

This is a wonderful song that stand as open rebuke to the Christian world that has lost the zeal for missionary and straitness of the word. Thus the church faces no opposition since the bare same resemblance to the world. None will makes through bed of roses while other strive hard to enter through the straight gate. Lord Have mercy for we are encompassed with so great cloud of witness. How the shall we escape if we neglect so great salvation
