1
There is a certain sense of life
With life of every kind;
And in th’ eternal life in us
It is a sense divine.
With life of every kind;
And in th’ eternal life in us
It is a sense divine.
2
The higher any life may be,
The better is its sense;
The life divine the highest is
And has the highest sense.
The better is its sense;
The life divine the highest is
And has the highest sense.
3
It is the sense of life in us,
It is the sense of God;
’Tis in our spirit made alive,
And more than sense of good.
It is the sense of God;
’Tis in our spirit made alive,
And more than sense of good.
4
It is the inner sense in us,
The inmost consciousness,
Discerning matters inwardly,
God’s will to thus express.
The inmost consciousness,
Discerning matters inwardly,
God’s will to thus express.
5
’Tis by this sense that God we know,
The sense of inner life;
’Tis pow’rful and spontaneous,
And not of any strife.
The sense of inner life;
’Tis pow’rful and spontaneous,
And not of any strife.
6
The greater is our growth in life,
The keener is this sense;
The more we walk and act in life,
The more it is intense.
The keener is this sense;
The more we walk and act in life,
The more it is intense.
7
The sense of life when exercised
Will make our spirit bold,
And by this inner sense of God
True fellowship we hold.
Will make our spirit bold,
And by this inner sense of God
True fellowship we hold.

THE SENSE OF LIFE IN OUR SPIRIT
Our inner sense of life comes from the Holy Spirit and is in our spirit (Romans 8:2, 9-11).
Thus, our first responsibility with regard to the sense of life is to walk according to the spirit (Romans 8:4) and to set our mind on the spirit in all things (Romans 8:6).
To walk according to the spirit and to set our mind on the spirit are to walk according to the sense of life, to set our mind on the sense of life, and to obey the sense of life.
With respect to the sense of life, the most important thing is obedience (Philippians 2:12-13; 2 Corinthians 10:6; Hebrews 3:7-18).
Regardless of the matter, as soon as we have an inner sense of life related to it, we should obey the sense of life immediately. This is the most precious thing about being a Christian.
If we want to obey the sense of life, we should walk according to the spirit and set the mind on the spirit.
THE MAINTENANCE, RECOVERY, AND INCREASE OF THE SENSE OF LIFE
In order for a believer not to lose the sense of life, he must be in fear and trembling as he cares for and obeys every inward feeling of life. Only this will maintain the sense of life within.
The sense of life within a believer becomes dull when he ignores or disobeys it. If a believer begins to obey the small, flickering sense within, the sense of life will revive and recover. Although our sense of life sometimes becomes dull because we ignore or disobey it, it never dies out entirely or disappears completely. Something always remains. If we are willing to care for and obey even our small sense of life, we will immediately recover. In order to recover the sense of life, we must care for and obey it.
The sense of life within a believer becomes keen when he obeys it. If a believer continues to obey everything that he feels, his sense of life will become even stronger and keener. The more a believer obeys the sense of life, the more the sense of life increases. Therefore, our obedience increases the sense of life within us.

The content of this hymn reminds me that, there is a certain "sense of life" I gained through regeneration-the life of God. Rom. 8:6 says, "For the mind of the flesh is death: But the mind of the spirit is life and peace." Praise Him for the sense of life that gives us feelings of life and peace by minding the things of the spirit. By this I feel strong and satisfied within. Amen.
