Praise to the Lord, the Almighty

1
Praise to the Lord, the Almighty,
  the King of creation!
O my soul, praise Him, for He is thy
  health and salvation!
    All ye who hear,
Now to His temple draw near;
Sing now in glad adoration!
2
Praise to the Lord, who o'er all
  things so wondrously reigneth,
Who, as on wings of an eagle,
  uplifteth, sustaineth.
    Hast thou not seen
How thy desires all have been
Granted in what He ordaineth?
3
Praise to the Lord, who hath fearfully,
  wondrously, made thee!
Health hath vouchsafed and, when
  heedlessly falling, hath stayed thee.
    What need or grief
Ever hath failed of relief?
Wings of His mercy did shade thee.
4
Praise to the Lord, who doth prosper
  thy work and defend thee,
Who from the heavens the streams of
  His mercy doth send thee.
    Ponder anew
What the Almighty can do,
Who with His love doth befriend thee.
5
Praise to the Lord! Oh, let all that
  is in me adore Him!
All that hath life and breath, come
  now with praises before Him!
    Let the Amen
Sound from His people again;
Gladly for aye we adore Him.

I remember being so touched by the words in this song 18 years ago and then again about a year and a half ago: His keeping power, His uplifting power, His sustaining power, His never-failing power. Praise to the Lord, I am impressed again and relieved that God holds true and trustworthy.

This song reminds me of another line from a song I enjoyed at around the same time (approx 1. 5 years ago) as this hymn:

"How wonderful, I never knew, that I could trust Thee so, that Thou would'st be so much to me in all the way I go. That every need Thou would'st supply and all my longings satisfy."

These old hymns are deeply stabilizing and encouraging to me.

What a delightful and spiritually inspiring hymn. This is over 250 years old. I think the people who don’t listen to “old gospel hymns” are missing a deeper message that could inspire them. The author was considered one of the best post reformation hymnists. Maybe because he was German. 😄 It is interesting to know he only lived to the age of 30. Why would the Lord take him so young?

This hymn is one God has inspired me to sing often as praise to Him and encouragement to me. I have surely found Him faithful and true to everything He has promised in His Word. The rich blessings of health, help, strength, prospering our work and defending us continues for His people who trust in Him even to this very day.

Listened to this hymn sung today on my mobile phone and found it so deeply moving that I looked up the words. It stopped me in my tracks and gave me a sense of praise and new trust in God's presence.

A wedding hymn 50 years ago. I am still meditating on it and waking up to it as others have. Especially precious is the verse which reads “Ponder anew, what the Almighty can do, who with His love doth befriend thee”.

I thank God for the Holy Spirit who woke me with this song as He does some times. I meditated on the lyrics. I thank God for His love , mercy , grace , protection and all the blessings HE has showered on me. Whatmore HE often tells me my soul is in tune with HIM through this song in accordance with Psalm 103. Praise God.

In the course of a morning worship, this hymn came so strongly to my mind but I couldn't remember the lyrics and looked it up. It was soul lifting to be able to sing it out and meditate thereon after I found it.

Praise be to God.
